The iconic pictorial and narrative digest, "Cottages of Glen Lake, by local author Barbara Siepker, refers to this classic early 1900's cottage, as "Evelyn's Cottage, or the Brown Cottage, once having had birch bark porch railings...." as it describes the rich history of this and the areas other original summer homes. A seasonal-use cottage, and its smaller "Wren Cottage" companion guest house, are nestled along the east side of what we now know as Alligator Hill, under towering hardwoods and majestic white pines, that makes one wonder, which is older... The main house, while rustic, with its vertical grain fir floors and "wavy glass" double hung windows, woven cedar shingle exterior detailing, and exposed rafters on a covered, screened porch, a certain throw back in time, has a comfortable emotion to it that makes one consider spending the whole summer here, and maybe more... Added onto (in 1988), with parts from an adjacent similar cottage demo, you'd at first glance not notice, but has provided an additional third bedroom and sleeping porch. Simple kitchen and bath and a half, living/dining area with an efficient wood stove (where the fireplace still is) for the cooler summer evenings and use in the spring and fall, not robust enough to provide warmth year around, come here in the kinder months. Charming guest house with fir floors, pine paneling, and additional half bath, and recent metal roof, suitable for the grands, or opening up a summer novel, or... detached two car garage for the summer roadster, or the beach toys you can bring to the shore of Big Glen Lake for a day at the beach. Newer septic system from 2007 will accommodate newer, but why would you need it when you've got a classic like this? Furnishing can stay if you'd like, with minor exceptions.
