“Wow! This is a dynamite location for the person who appreciates fine wood-working and likes to “live outdoors” at home. The owners have put their talents to work and have created a wonderful artisan’s retreat, just minutes away from a sunset at Empire beach (and maybe you’d see the “green flash” - it happens!). You are greeted by a brick paver walkway flanked with perennials and shrubs as you approach a shingle style, not so big house (but is over 2000 square feet, plus a partial basement for storing the bikes and kayaks).
The fun has just begun, as you enter through a vertical grain fir door and into a cherry and walnut custom kitchen with stainless steel appliances and terra cotta floor. The lighting fixtures are cool and the detailing throughout the rest of the house is well thought out and creatively put into action.
There is plenty of wall space to display art (and currently does) adjacent to windows that let in lots of light that shows off the birch floors, Brazilian cherry stairway, white cedar ceilings, and ledge stone-faced, wood burning fireplace. Even though the bathroom on the main level is in the center of the house, a creative transom glass treatment lets in plenty of natural light (and the tile shower is so very well done, as well the built in storage areas and pottery sink/counter top treatment).
The laundry is on the main level and has plenty of space to dress down, or up if you’re coming or going outside to the shower under the trees. Two generously sized bedrooms are on the main level, one used for company/overflow and the other for a studio/office space. The upper level is where the master suite is, with a slight vault to the ceiling and an inviting claw foot bathtub that has a tree top/birds eye view to the great outdoors of this private get away.
There’s a big flagstone patio on the sunny east side of the house, perfect for entertaining on a warm summer night, (and easier to maintain than a deck!) The gardener in the family has created a native prairie planting in a meadow beyond and kept the overall concept low maintenance, as well very appealing and ecology sensitive.
There’s plenty of room to build an additional building on the three acre plus sized parcel if one desires, and golf, horse boarding/riding, skiing (both water and snow), are all just minutes away, making this a great home base to live and play from!”
