Wonderful opportunity for family or friends to share on Big Glen. 2 modest cottages occupy 2 separate parcels, 1 on coveted east (sunset-facing) shore & other across street w/water views & 20' deeded access for a total of 110’. Heavy cedar hedgerow currently guards lake cottage, but gives way to sandy beach and “A” lake bottom. Hill cottage site is caressed by mature hardwoods/lush ground cover w/22 x 22 block, earth-bermed garage. Creative site planning & design would make the most of this unique offering.
Rob says…
“Elmer Billman was a bit of pioneer, I’m told, and in fact, there’s a platted area in Kasson Township that bears his name in that very way, Bellman’s Pioneer Park, across from what we know now as Old Settlers Park in Burdickville. Elmer was a talented man and built a great many cottages in the area, including the two that are included in this offering. He even owned the land that the Glen Lake School is on.
His grand daughters now own the property, but because of distance and their positions in life, they have elected to offer the property to the next generations. Both sisters have long-lasting ties to the area, with one graduating in the early 70’s at the top of her class from Glen Lake School, and the other a co-host with her husband on the Morning Daybreak show on Interlochen Public Radio, WIAA.
If the cottages could talk, they would have a lot to say, as evidenced by the books, games, photos and furniture that will be going away as a new owner takes the reins. Both cabins are a bit on the rustic side, and in all likelihood, will find other places to be and give way to more substantial improvements.
The lake side property is a bit over grown with beautiful cedars and birch trees, and has a little stream that meanders along the back side of the cottage and enters Glen Lake along the southern property line. The total frontage is 110’, with 20 of it deeded to the “hill cottage” property across the street, along the north property line. All together, the gross acreage is approximately 1.14 acres. The offering is for two parcels of record, so ownership could be split between family members or friends.
The hill cottage is nestled amongst beautiful hardwoods and a nice ground cover, and has views of Big Glen that could certainly be enhanced by some selective thinning.
Glen Arbor is five minutes away, and fine dining opportunities at La Becasse, Funistrada in Burdickville, or breakfast at the Foot Hills, are an easy walk or short car ride away."
